A perfect blend of Japan and Italy, Giuliano Fujiwara is based in Milan but follows the minimalist principles of Japanese design. Enhanced by the tradition of Italian manufacturing, this convergence has resulted in a somewhat powerful and graphic design aesthetic- an element evident in his new Italian flagship store. Launched in January as part of a retail expanding project which started in Tokyo in 2006, this striking store is a concept created by Giuliano Fujiwara’s creative director Masataka Matsumura and is inspired by the Japanese view that beauty can be found in imperfection. With fibre cement slabs for paving and seemingly random shiny black panels reflecting against each other creating space and extreme simplicity, Ii beauty is in imperfection, then this store looks pretty flawed to us.
